In the ravaged future of Waterworld, the once-solid earth has transformed into a vast ocean, leaving humanity clinging to makeshift floating cities and desperate for survival. The story follows the enigmatic Mariner (Kevin Costner), a grizzled and isolated mutant who has adapted to this new world by developing gills and a penchant for scavenging for food.
