In 1945, eccentric filmmaker Ed Wood Jr. (Johnny Depp) is determined to make it big in Hollywood despite his lack of talent and technical expertise. With the help of his quirky friends, including a drug-addled horror star Bela Lugosi (Martin Landau), a dwarf actor O'Brien (George 'Gino' Gianatsis), and a sex-change actress Bunny (Sarah Jessica Parker), Ed embarks on a series of bizarre filmmaking adventures. Ed's big break comes when he writes a script for the low-budget horror film "Glen or Glenda," which becomes a surprise hit thanks to its campy charm and incoherent storytelling. Encouraged by his success, Ed decides to make a vampire movie, "Bride of the Monster," starring Bela Lugosi as a mad scientist. As Ed's films become more and more bizarre, he attracts the attention of Hollywood critics, who mercilessly pan his work. Undeterred, Ed continues to churn out films at an alarming rate, often working multiple projects simultaneously and ignoring the pleas from his cast and crew to stop. Despite his lack of commercial success or critical acclaim, Ed's passion for filmmaking remains unwavering, and he becomes a cult figure among fans of B-movies. The film concludes with Ed reflecting on his legacy, acknowledging that while he may not have achieved fame or fortune, he has at least made movies that bring joy to others.
