Meet the Spartans is a 2008 parody film that spoofs the classic historical epic, 300. Directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the movie tells the story of Leonidas (Sasha Barrese), the fearless king of Sparta, who leads a small band of warriors in a battle against the mighty Persian Empire. Meanwhile, Xerxes' adviser, a wisecracking oracle (Jim Piddock), provides sarcastic commentary on the unfolding battle. Throughout the film, Meet the Spartans relies heavily on pop culture references, parodying everything from The Matrix and Braveheart to Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings. The movie's humor is largely based on its willingness to poke fun at itself, acknowledging the absurdity of ancient warfare and the over-the-top nature of historical epics.
