In "Safe House", a former CIA agent named Mattsyenko (played by Denzel Washington) has been on the run for over a decade after being accused of treason. He is a man consumed by his own demons and haunted by the ghosts of his past. When he is finally caught and taken to a secret safe house, it seems like he will finally have a chance to clear his name and start anew. However, things take a turn when the safe house is attacked by a group of heavily armed mercenaries led by a ruthless mercenary named Vargas (played by Vladimir Kulich). Mattsyenko manages to escape from the mercenaries with the help of a young CIA operative named Tanner (played by Ryan Reynolds), who has been sent to interrogate him.
