The movie opens with Homer Simpson, the patriarch of the dysfunctional family, causing chaos when he spills a massive amount of beer into the Springfield River, which then contaminates the city's water supply. As a result, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) steps in and encases the entire town of Springfield in a giant dome to prevent further environmental damage. Believing Homer to be responsible for the catastrophe, the EPA declares the Simpsons family outlaws, forcing them to flee their home and go into hiding. Marge Simpson, Homer's wife, is devastated by the turn of events and tries to hold the family together as they navigate this new reality. Meanwhile, a former Springfield resident turned environmental activist, Russ Cargill, becomes determined to capture the Simpsons and put an end to their reckless behavior once and for all. Cargill sees the Simpsons' flight from the law as a golden opportunity to prove his point about the dangers of pollution and the importance of environmental responsibility. As the Simpsons try to evade capture and find a way to lift the dome, they also have to deal with the consequences of their own actions. Bart Simpson, the eldest child, becomes disillusioned with his family's situation and starts questioning whether he really wants to be part of this dysfunctional bunch. Lisa Simpson, the intelligent and compassionate middle child, tries to rally her family and find a solution that will benefit both them and the environment. Throughout the movie, Homer struggles to come to terms with his mistakes and make amends for the damage he has caused. As the Simpsons' situation becomes increasingly dire, they must confront their own flaws and learn to work together if they hope to survive and restore balance to their beloved town of Springfield.
