Cốt truyện

Orpheus is a 1959 French New Wave film written and directed by Jean Cocteau. The movie tells the story of Orpheus (played by Jean Marais), a poet who has lost his muse, Eurydice (played by María Casares). His wife, Eurydice, has died, and Orpheus is grief-stricken. In a desperate attempt to bring her back from the dead, he sets out on a journey to the underworld, guided by his love for Death. As Orpheus descends into the underworld, he finds himself in a surreal world where he encounters a series of enigmatic characters. He meets a group of silent, expressionless women who are waiting for their own loved ones, and a mysterious figure known only as "Priestess of the Underworld" (played by María Casares). The Priestess reveals to Orpheus that she has fallen in love with him and offers to help him bring back Eurydice. Orpheus agrees to follow the Priestess's instructions, but at a steep price: he must look away as they ascend from the underworld to the world of the living. As they emerge into the sunlight, Orpheus is unable to resist looking back, causing Eurydice to disappear forever. The film explores themes of love, death, and the power of art to transcend mortality. Through Orpheus's journey, Cocteau ponders the nature of creativity and the human desire for connection with the divine. The movie features a unique blend of poetic imagery, innovative cinematography, and philosophical introspection, making it a thought-provoking and visually stunning work of cinematic art.
