Cốt truyện

Don't Come Knocking is a 2005 American drama film written and directed by Wim Wenders. The film stars Sam Shepard as Howard Spence, a former Western movie star who has hit rock bottom. The story follows Howard as he travels from one place to another, indulging in his vices of drinking, drug-taking, and casual affairs with younger women. He is haunted by the memories of his past successes and failures, including his marriage to a woman named Edwina (played by Jessica Lange) who has since passed away. As Howard continues to self-destruct, he receives a letter from his estranged 14-year-old daughter, Ruby (played by Madeline Carroll), informing him that she is being taken care of by her mother's new husband and stepdaughter. Feeling guilty for abandoning his family, Howard decides to visit them in New Mexico, hoping to reconnect with Ruby and make amends. Upon arrival, Howard meets a waitress named Doreen (played by Sarah Polley) who becomes the object of his affections. As he tries to win her over, he also begins to form a bond with Ruby, showing her that there is more to life than just partying and indulging in vices. Throughout the film, Howard's character undergoes a transformation as he confronts his past mistakes and begins to take responsibility for his actions. The story explores themes of redemption, family, and finding one's place in the world, all set against the backdrop of the American Southwest. With its unique blend of drama, comedy, and poignancy, Don't Come Knocking is a powerful exploration of human nature and the power of second chances.
