Pain & Gain is a dark comedy thriller film directed by Michael Bay, released in 2013. The story takes place in the early 1990s in Miami, where Daniel Lugo (played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson), a charismatic but troubled personal trainer, works at the Sun Gym. Lugo has a vision of achieving the American dream: wealth, success, and admiration. However, he believes that traditional means such as hard work and dedication are not enough to get him there. Instead, he concocts a scheme to kidnap and extort a wealthy businessman, Victor Kershaw (played by Tony Shalhoub), who owns a string of successful restaurants. To carry out his plan, Lugo recruits two muscle-bound friends, Paul Doyle (played by Mark Wahlberg) and Adrian Doorball (played by Anthony Mackie).
