In 1967, a naive and idealistic young American soldier named Chris Taylor (Charlie Sheen) arrives in Vietnam as part of a new platoon led by a seasoned and no-nonsense sergeant, Barnes (Tom Berenger). As Chris settles into his new surroundings, he is struck by the harsh realities of war and the brutal behavior of some of his fellow soldiers.
