Christmas chaos ensues when the well-meaning but hapless Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) attempts to host a traditional holiday gathering with his family and friends at his home in suburban Chicago. Despite his enthusiasm and dedication, everything that can go wrong does. The film opens on a bleak winter morning as Clark, a lovable but slightly neurotic everyman, is busy decorating the house with an overabundance of lights, garlands, and inflatables.
