Plot

The Vantage Point tells the story of the attempted assassination of President Henry Ashton (William Hurt) as seen through the eyes of five individuals who witnessed the event from different vantage points. The film opens with Howard Payne (Sigourney Weaver), a former Secret Service agent turned assassin, who sets in motion the events that unfold. Payne is hired by a group of rogue agents to take out the President during his visit to Salamanca, Spain. As the President arrives at the Plaza de Toros, multiple perspectives are introduced, each revealing a piece of the puzzle. Agent Rex Taylor (Dennis Quaid), who is part of the Presidential detail, narrates his account of the event from the viewpoint of his colleague, Kent Taylor. Meanwhile, Julian Nimziki (Tommy Lee Jones) shares his perspective as a CIA agent monitoring the situation from afar. Next, the film cuts to Thomas Barnes (Jonah Blechman), a young tourist who inadvertently becomes embroiled in the assassination attempt. His account is revealed through his journal entries and conversations with fellow witness, Howard Lewis (Shia LaBeouf).
