As Christmas approaches, 17-year-old Billy Peltzer, an awkward and lovable young man, is thrilled to receive a peculiar pet named Gizmo from his father, Randall. The creature, a Mogwai, is small, cute, and seemingly harmless, with the ability to survive in water and emit a high-pitched scream when frightened. However, Billy soon discovers that he has been entrusted with three crucial rules for caring for Gizmo: never expose it to direct sunlight, never feed it after midnight, and never get it wet. Initially, Billy is delighted by his new pet and learns to care for him, but things take a dark turn when Gizmo gets drenched in water at the local convenience store. Unbeknownst to Billy, this breach of the rules sets off a chain reaction that spawns a multitude of ferocious and destructive creatures known as Gremlins. As the Gremlins wreak havoc on the quiet town of Kingston Falls, Billy must navigate the chaos caused by his carelessness.
