In ancient Greece, Queen Gorgo urges her husband, King Leonidas of Sparta, to form an alliance with other city-states to counter the impending invasion by Persian King Xerxes. However, Leonidas believes that honor and duty require him to defend his city-state alone. As the Persian army approaches, Leonidas assembles a small force of 300 Spartans, including his loyal captain, Dilios, and his most trusted friend, Astinos. They are tasked with defending the narrow pass at Thermopylae against Xerxes' massive forces. The Spartans, renowned for their martial prowess, prepare to face overwhelming odds. Meanwhile, Ephialtes, a local resident, betrays them by revealing an alternate path around the pass, allowing the Persians to attack from behind. As the battle rages on, Leonidas and his men fight valiantly, using their phalanx formation and shields to great effect against the Persian horde. However, despite their bravery, they are vastly outnumbered and begin to tire. In a final act of defiance, Leonidas leads a small contingent of warriors in a suicidal charge against the Persians, hoping to create chaos and give his men time to escape. He is eventually killed, but his sacrifice inspires his comrades to continue fighting. As the Spartans retreat, they are nearly exterminated by the Persians, leaving only a handful of survivors. Dilios, who has managed to escape, becomes the sole narrator of the events that transpired at Thermopylae. In a poignant epilogue, Queen Gorgo receives news of her husband's bravery and honor, as well as his ultimate sacrifice.
