Plot

In the 1993 action-adventure film Cliffhanger, former ranger Gabe Walker (Sylvester Stallone) is still reeling from the tragic loss of his friend and partner, Jessie Deighan, who fell to her death while attempting to rescue a group of climbers on El Potrero Chico mountain. A year has passed since the accident, but Gabe's guilt and sense of responsibility continue to haunt him. When a distress call comes in from the same mountain, requesting assistance for another group of stranded climbers, Gabe reluctantly agrees to return with his new partner, Hal Tucker (John Lithgow). As they approach the peak, Gabe's anxiety and trepidation grow, but he is determined to complete the rescue mission and prove to himself that he can overcome his fears. Upon arrival, Gabe and Hal discover a group of climbers in trouble, including a beautiful and feisty woman named Lena (Janine Turner). As they begin the arduous process of rescuing the stranded hikers, Gabe and Hal realize that they are not alone on the mountain. A group of ruthless treasure hunters, led by the cunning Eric Qualen (Michael Rooker), is also seeking to claim the valuable gold that lies hidden at the summit.
