Medicine Man (1992) In the lush and treacherous Amazonian rainforest, eccentric and reclusive scientist Dr. Alan Goodman (Sean Connery) is on the brink of a groundbreaking discovery that could revolutionize the treatment of cancer. Employed by a large pharmaceutical company, Goodman's obsessive pursuit of a cure has led him to abandon all sense of rationality and caution. When his research team leader, Dr. Rae Crane (Lorraine Bracco), refuses to provide him with the necessary resources and personnel to complete his project, Goodman takes drastic measures. He sends for a young and ambitious research assistant, Dr. Steve Ross (Christian Slater), and a state-of-the-art gas chromatograph, hoping that these new additions will help him finally crack the code.
