The film opens with a gruesome scene: Beatrix "Black Mamba" Kiddo, a skilled assassin, lies bleeding in the wedding chapel where she was supposed to be married. She is shot by her former boss and mentor, Bill, and his loyal henchmen Vernita Green, O-Ren Ishii, and Budd. Kiddo's best friend and fellow assassin, Gogo Yubari, also appears on the scene, killing Kiddo's groom-to-be, Johnny Mo. As Kiddo lies dying, she sees a flashback of her past with Bill and the rest of their assassination team, which includes Elle Driver, a former member who betrayed them. Kiddo is taken to a hospital in Hong Kong, where she recuperates from her injuries and begins plotting her revenge against those who tried to kill her. Kiddo's quest for vengeance takes her back to her home town of Texas, where she seeks out Vernita Green, one half of the deadly duo known as Cottonmouth. Kiddo's search leads her to a motel, where she discovers that Vernita has gone into witness protection with her two children. Feeling guilty and sympathetic towards the innocent victims, Kiddo decides not to kill Vernita, instead opting for a more subtle approach. As Kiddo continues her quest for revenge, she faces off against Gogo Yubari in an intense and bloody battle. Kiddo emerges victorious, killing Gogo and claiming her sword, Hanzo, as a trophy. Meanwhile, Bill is shown to be plotting his next move from the shadows, as O-Ren Ishii's deadly assassin squad, the Crazy 88, prepares for a showdown with Kiddo. The film ends with Kiddo arriving at the House of Blue Leaves, where she confronts the leader of the Crazy 88, Hattori Hanzo. Despite her best efforts, Kiddo is unable to defeat him and escapes with only her life. As the credits roll, it becomes clear that Kiddo's journey for revenge is far from over, setting the stage for Kill Bill: Vol. 2.
