Danton

Cốt truyện

Danton is a historical drama film directed by Andrzej Wajda, released in 1983. The movie tells the story of Georges Danton, a leader of the French Revolution and Maximilien Robespierre, his former friend and ally. The film takes place during the Reign of Terror, a period of violence and bloodshed in which thousands of people were executed for perceived opposition to the revolutionary government. Danton (played by Gérard Depardieu) is portrayed as a charismatic leader who was instrumental in the early successes of the Revolution. However, he has become disillusioned with the direction the Revolution is taking and begins to question Robespierre's (played by Wojciech Pszoniak) motives. As the film progresses, Danton becomes increasingly isolated from his former allies and comrades, including Robespierre, who has become obsessed with purging France of its enemies. The once-close friends are now bitter enemies, with Danton seeing Robespierre as a power-hungry tyrant who is willing to do whatever it takes to maintain control. The movie culminates in the famous trial and execution of Georges Danton, which was a real-life event that took place on April 5, 1794. The film's portrayal of this event is both poignant and powerful, highlighting the tragic consequences of the Reign of Terror and the destruction it wrought upon France. Throughout the movie, Wajda explores themes of betrayal, power, and the corrupting influence of absolute authority. The film also examines the human cost of revolution and the devastating effects it can have on individuals and society as a whole. With outstanding performances from Depardieu and Pszoniak, Danton is a gripping and thought-provoking drama that sheds light on one of the most tumultuous periods in French history.
