Ransom is a 1998 American thriller film directed by Ron Howard and starring Mel Gibson, Rene Russo, and Gary Sinise. Tom Mullen (Mel Gibson), a self-made millionaire, lives a comfortable life with his wife Kate (Rene Russo) and their two young children. However, their world is turned upside down when their eight-year-old son Sean is kidnapped during a family outing at the zoo. The kidnappers demand a ransom of $2 million in exchange for Sean's safe return. Initially, Tom cooperates fully with the police, led by Detective Danny Quinn (Gary Sinise), and provides them with all necessary information to help track down the kidnappers. However, as the investigation stalls and the deadline for the ransom payment approaches, Tom becomes increasingly frustrated and desperate. He begins to take matters into his own hands, using his business acumen and resourcefulness to try and outsmart the kidnappers. Tom's unconventional approach involves making a series of bold moves, including taking out advertisements in local newspapers and on television, as well as making public appeals for information about Sean's disappearance. These tactics are met with skepticism by the police and criticism from Kate, who fears that Tom's actions will put their son in even greater danger. As the situation becomes more dire and the clock ticks down, Tom's determination to save his son pushes him to make increasingly risky decisions. Meanwhile, Detective Quinn and his team work tirelessly to uncover the truth behind Sean's kidnapping and bring the perpetrators to justice. Throughout the film, Ron Howard masterfully builds tension and suspense as Tom's desperation grows, leading to a thrilling and intense climax. Ransom is a gripping and emotionally charged thriller that explores the lengths to which a parent will go to protect their child.
