In the Pride Lands of Africa, a future king is born when Simba, a young lion cub, arrives as the son of King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi. As Simba grows up, he becomes increasingly fascinated with his father's stories about the Circle of Life, where all living things are connected and interdependent. However, not everyone in the kingdom shares Simba's enthusiasm for the new royal arrival. Scar, Mufasa's jealous brother and former heir to the throne, has been plotting against his sibling for years, seeking revenge for being passed over as king. As Simba reaches adulthood, he becomes more reckless and disobedient, much to the dismay of his father and advisors. Scar sees an opportunity to strike, using Simba's foolishness to his advantage. He orchestrates a tragic event that results in Mufasa's demise, leaving Simba consumed by grief and guilt. Believing himself responsible for his father's death, Simba abandons his royal responsibilities and runs away from the Pride Lands, leaving Scar to take over as king. Simba's friend, Nala, tries to persuade him to return home and reclaim his rightful place as king, but he is too ashamed and fearful of facing his past. Meanwhile, a meerkat named Timon and a warthog named Pumbaa, who have taken Simba in and raised him as one of their own, teach him the carefree ways of "Hakuna Matata" – no worries. As Simba grows and learns to let go of his past, he begins to realize that he can't escape his destiny forever. Simba's journey is marked by a series of encounters with old friends and foes, including Nala, who has become the leader of the lionesses in the Pride Lands. With her help, Simba faces Scar and ultimately confronts the truth about Mufasa's death and his own role in it. In the end, Simba must decide whether to let his past define him or forge a new path as king, using the wisdom and lessons he has learned along the way.
