In the midst of a romantic getaway to a secluded woodland retreat, Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) and his girlfriend Linda (Denise Bixler) stumble upon an ancient-looking Necronomicon, bound in human flesh and inked with strange symbols. Ignoring the ominous warnings, they decide to play a recording from the book, unleashing a malevolent force that slowly but surely turns Linda into a possessed, bloodthirsty demon.
