In the ravaged future of Waterworld, the once-solid earth has transformed into a vast ocean, leaving humanity clinging to makeshift floating cities and desperate for survival. The story follows the enigmatic Mariner (Kevin Costner), a grizzled and isolated mutant who has adapted to this new world by developing gills and a penchant for scavenging for food. The film's protagonist, Helen (Jeanne Tripplehorn), is a stunning barmaid who works on the seedy floating trading post known as "Attila the Sea". When she rescues Mariner from a makeshift prison on a floating island, she unwittingly sets in motion a chain of events that will change their lives forever.
