In the hilarious comedy "Dumb and Dumber," Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels) are two dim-witted but lovable friends who embark on a cross-country road trip to return a lost briefcase to its owner, Mary Swanson (Lauren Holly). The duo's misadventures begin when they meet Mary at a convenience store, where she accidentally leaves behind the suitcase containing $30,000. Lloyd, a limousine driver with a crush on Mary, convinces Harry, an eccentric and naive friend, to join him on a quest to return the briefcase to its rightful owner. As they set off from Providence, Rhode Island, to Aspen, Colorado, the duo encounters a series of absurd and comedic situations. Along the way, Lloyd and Harry face numerous challenges, including getting into ridiculous misadventures with eccentric characters, such as a group of bikers, a pair of rival limousine drivers, and a suspicious FBI agent. The two friends' ineptitude often leads to chaos and destruction, causing them to become entangled in a series of harebrained schemes. As they near their destination, Lloyd and Harry's antics become increasingly absurd, including a memorable scene where they try to sneak into Mary's hotel room by dressing up as maintenance workers.
