In the 1950s, Baltimore is home to a group of "drapes" - teenage girls who are part of a gang led by a charismatic leader named Cry-Baby (Johnny Depp). The drapes are known for their love of rock and roll music and their disdain for the city's upper-class teenagers, known as the "squares." Among the squares is Allison Vernon-Williams (Amy Locane), a beautiful and popular high school student who seems to have it all. However, Allison is trapped in a life she doesn't want - her grandmother, Ruthie (Kim McGuire), is a wealthy socialite who is determined to keep Allison in line. When Cry-Baby falls for Allison, he decides to make his move. Despite their vastly different backgrounds and reputations, the two begin dating in secret. Cry-Baby's love of rock and roll and his rebellious nature rub off on Allison, and she starts to see the world in a different light. However, their relationship is not without its challenges.
