Here is the plot summary of "Kundun": "Kundun" tells the story of Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, who was born in 1935 in Amdo, Tibet. As a young boy, he is recognized as the reincarnation of the previous Dalai Lama and begins his spiritual journey to become the leader of Tibetan Buddhism. The film follows his early life, including his escape from Tibet after communist China invades in 1950. As the Chinese occupation tightens its grip on Tibet, the Dalai Lama's family sends him away to Lhasa for his own protection. He is eventually found and recognized as the reincarnation of the previous Dalai Lama, and begins his education and training as a monk. However, when China launches a brutal crackdown on Tibetan resistance in 1959, the Dalai Lama is forced to flee his home once again, this time to India, where he establishes a government-in-exile for the Tibetan people. The film culminates with the Dalai Lama's arrival in India and his determination to continue the fight for Tibetan freedom. Throughout the film, Martin Scorsese's direction pays homage to Tibetan culture and spirituality, blending stunning visuals and traditional music with a powerful narrative that explores themes of identity, faith, and resilience. The film features a critically acclaimed performance by Tenzin Thuthob Tsarong as the young Dalai Lama, and is widely regarded as one of the most authentic and moving portrayals of Tibetan culture on screen.
