Plot

In the midst of the Cold War, a group of security experts with a knack for unconventional problem-solving find themselves entangled in a web of international espionage. Martin Bishop (Robert Redford), a reformed hacker and leader of the team known as "The Fingerprints," is approached by a government agency that claims to be working on behalf of national security. The agency, led by Bernard Abbott (James Earl Jones), reveals that they have been monitoring the activities of a Soviet-funded genius named Cosmo (Ben Kingsley) who has created a code-breaking device called the "black box." This technological marvel has the potential to compromise global security and disrupt international relations. The agency demands that Martin's team, which includes his former hacker partner, Carl Arbegast (William H. Macy), and his quirky friend, Donald Crease (Dan Aykroyd), steal the black box from Cosmo. As Martin and his team navigate this high-stakes mission, they are forced to confront their own moral ambiguities. They must balance their desire for financial gain with their commitment to upholding justice. Meanwhile, they also have to contend with the unpredictable nature of their adversaries, including a group of ruthless mercenaries hired by the Soviet Union. As tensions escalate and allegiances are tested, Martin's team finds themselves in a desperate race against time to retrieve the black box before it falls into the wrong hands. Along the way, they must use all their skills, gadgets, and ingenuity to outsmart their foes and stay one step ahead of the game.
