The Wonderful Crook tells the story of a once-thriving furniture manufacturer named Georges Laurent, who finds himself facing financial ruin as his business begins to decline. Desperate to keep his employees paid and his factory running, Georges turns to a life of crime, embarking on a spree of bank robberies. As Georges navigates this new world of deceit and illegal activity, he finds himself developing an unexpected romantic connection with one of his victims - a bank teller named Marie-Gabrielle. Despite the fact that she is technically a victim of his crimes, Georges and Marie-Gabrielle begin to form a bond, and their relationship becomes a source of comfort and solace for both of them. As Georges continues to rob banks, he becomes increasingly skilled at evading capture, earning him the nickname "The Wonderful Crook." However, his actions also attract the attention of Inspector Lacompagne, a determined detective who is hell-bent on catching Georges and putting an end to his criminal ways.
