$5 a Day

Plot

In the comedy-drama film "$5 a Day", Nick Hume (Christopher Walken) is a small-time con artist who has just been released from prison after serving time for fraud. As he tries to adjust to life outside bars, he receives an unexpected visit from his estranged son, Nat (Aaron Paul), who has learned that his father's health is rapidly declining. Despite their complicated past and Nick's initial reluctance, Nat convinces his father to let him join him on the road as they travel across the country in a quest for cash. Their journey becomes a series of misadventures, as they concoct various schemes to make ends meet, from selling fake products at flea markets to scamming unsuspecting tourists. Throughout their travels, Nick and Nat's relationship is put to the test as they confront their past mistakes and try to forge a new bond. Along the way, they encounter a cast of eccentric characters, including a quirky motel owner (Jeffrey Tambor) and a charming diner waitress (Amanda Peet), who help shape their experiences. As Nick's health continues to deteriorate, Nat is forced to confront his own mortality and the consequences of his father's actions. The two must come to terms with their complicated history and find a way to reconcile their differences before it's too late. Through its lighthearted tone and offbeat humor, "$5 a Day" explores themes of family, redemption, and the power of human connection. With Walken and Paul delivering strong performances, this heartwarming tale is a must-see for fans of quirky comedies with a deep emotional core.
